Welcome
back to school everyone. We hope you all had a wonderfull break from
the normal routine, and had lots of quality family time together. It is
hard to imagine it is all over with and we are back to our routines and
schedules. Happy New Year!
Winter break was a very productive time at the school. You may notice
the front entryway project, with our new bricks. Make sure to look for
yours! Thankyou to Shawn Lebrun (Katie's Dad, MWF pm) and her Grandpa
Richard who worked really hard on the project.
The kitchen "remodel" also took place over the break. Ken Dueck
(Jessica's Dad, MWF am class) and his crew painted all the cupboards
and replaced the hardware. New granite countertops were installed as
well as a new sink, fixtures and garbage disposal. The last piece of
the puzzle was installation of a new linoleum floor (St Francis
Flooring). We thank everyone who had a part to play in the redo. Stop
in and take a look!! We're very happy with the results.
January is a very busy time here at school. We will be having our
annual Father/Child Breakfast (January 20th). The kids will make a
wonderfull breakfast for their Dads, so make sure you put the date
on your planner.
We will also have a SNOW day at Brush Creek where we bring in big tubs
of snow to play in. You will be seeing a lot of winter projects and we
will do our best to be cozy together. If you have any old hats/scarves
or mittens you'd like to donate, pleasd do so.
Have a wonderfull month. (back

Mitten Days will be held for the front and back
classes on January 25th and 26th. Make sure your child brings in a pair
or gloves or mittens and that they are labeled with your child's
name. Also, if you bring them in a zip lock bag, we can send them back
home wet and contained. Thanks for your cooperation….get
ready for a fun snow day! (back

Thank
you so much to all of you who donated coats to our winter coat drive.
We received over 50 coats that were sent off to two separate charities.
It is wonderfull to see that the spirit of giving lives at Brush Creek.

Our
annual Father/Child breakfast will be held on Saturday, January 20th.
This fun event will be held here at school. No need to sign up, we'll
just be expecting you. Each child is encouraged to bring their Dad to
eat breakfast at the school. Grandpa or a special male friend can fill
in if Dad's not available. The kids and
teachers will prepare a delicious breakfast of eggs, fruit bread, fruit
salad and coffee. Remember, your events fee has already paid for your
admission.
We will serve all
MWF morning class children (front and
back) at 9am. All TTH morning class children (also, front and back)
will be asked to attend at 9:45am. All afternoon children are asked to
come at 10:30am. If you cannot make your assigned shift,
please feel
free to come at the time that works for you.
Please bring 2 pieces of fruit on January 18th, or 19th to create our
fruit salad. This way each child can participate, and bring the fruit
they like. PLEASE DO NOT SEND THE FRUIT WITH YOUR CHILD THE
MORNING OF THE BREAKFAST! (back

Please
remember to label your children's clothing. With all of the
unpredictable weather, we may wear a coat in the morning, and leave it
inside later. We have a tough time matching jackets to children when
they are not labeled. Many items go to Goodwill at the end of the
school year, simply because they do not have a name in them.

Many of
you have commented that you've enjoyed receiving your newsletter
on-line. This has been the work of our Board secretary, Dawn
Kruetzfeldt. Dawn is the Mom of Megan in our MWF am front class. While
on a trip to Texas, Megan fell ill and has ended up in the hospital.
Things have progressed to Megan having a "halo" installed and a
diagnosis of histlocytosis, which is a condition that erodes bone (in
this case in Megan's neck/spine area). Many of the families in Megan's
class have asked about her condition and question when she is able to
come home. We will be glad to update you when we have information. Dawn
has sent regular e-mails so we can keep up on the latest news. Megan is
due to return to Santa Rosa and to school in mid-January and we know
she will be greeted with open arms. So in the meanwhile, hug your
kids closer today. Send good thoughts and prayers their way and if
there
is help to give, give it.
Oh yes, and there won't be an emailed newsletter for a
while..............Thanks. (back

Thanks
everyone for your support through your escrip or community smart
enrollment. We really appreciate you taking the time to join in on this
easy money making endeavor for the school.
We hope you all used you cards often throughout the holiday season.
Every dollar earned helps the school in many ways. Thanks for letting
us count on you. (back

Have
some spare time? We're looking for someone willing to clean the school
gutters out. With our beautiful oak trees we have lots of leaves
clogging the gutters. Can you help? (back

Before
we know it, Evening in Paradise (our Spring fundraiser) will be here
and we'll be packaging up items to sell. We sure can use baskets of all
shapes and sizes. If you have any you wish to donate. As you clean out
closets this Winter/Spring keep us in mind. (back

Some of
you may know that Brush Creek won a fully catered luncheon before the
Winter break, courtesy of KZST radio station and Langley's restaurant.
We would like to thank Gena Kilgore, Wendy Glasgow, Sara Eng and Tina
Baker who came to do lunch with the kids so we could sit down and enjoy
wonderfull food like braised short ribs and garlic mashed potatoes.
Chef Langley (Fred) and his wife Sara have a connection to Brush Creek.
Before they were married, Sara worked as a teacher here. As a matter of
fact, Fred proposed to Sara in the Big Yard. They now have a beautiful
son Jack, who we hope will be a Brush Creek student in a few years.
What a wonderfull way to end 2006.
(Langley's is located on the Green in Windsor.....go and say hi to Sara
and Fred if you have a chance!!)

The
Brush Creek Nursery School Board of Directors is pleased to announce
Sonya Barber is the profiled staff member for January, 2007. Sonya is
currently working a "job split" with Julie, coming into the MWF am
front class on Fridays. She is also charged with setting up our outdoor
environment one day a week.
Sonya was born in San Mateo and was raised with two sisters and a
brother. During her teenage years Sonya worked at summer camps, after
school programs and day care so it was logical that after her
graduation she went to college and taught at Marin Day Schools in
Redwood City.
Sonya pursued other interests besides her love of children. She studied
holistic nutrition at IET College, and she graduated as a certified
nutrition consultant in 2001. During a spontaneous moment, Sonya took a
10 day introductory massage course at the school of Shiatsu and
Massage. She was surprised to find how much she loved giving massages
and decided to pursue this new venture. This is about the time Sonya
found Brush Creek. She signed on as a substitute teacher, still
pursuing massage therapy.
In 2005 Sonya went to work for Live Oak Preschool in Healdsburg, still
keeping her Brush Creek connection. She completed her BA in Humanities
with Consciousness, Healing and Ecology as her concentration. Her
thesis was designing and presenting holistic nutrition workshops and
classes for teachers and parents of young children.
Sonya's passions and hobbies include: traveling, dancing, yoga,
drumming and anything and everything outdoors (camping, hiking, biking,
kayaking). She recently became engaged to her fiance Sean, and is
looking foward to officially becoming stepmom to Forest (6 years old).
We thank Sonya for all that she brings to our program and our children.
She is a wonderfull asset. Please make sure you acknowledge Sonya this
month for all of her fine efforts. (Sonya's complete profile is located
inside the bulletin board at the front entryway). (back
